What is the FTSE

FTSE- Financial Times Stock Exchange - pronounced Footsie, the FTSE is a company who produce statistics for subscribers, their most famous index is that of the share prices of the so called top companies quoted on the London Stock Exchange.

There are two indexes quoted, the FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 which obviously relate to the top 100 and top 250 blue chip companies respectively.

Naturally a rising index indicates that prices are rising in general and the converse with falling prices.

Like all indexes the changing value/figure represents the general trend and there will be many stocks both under and over performing the FTSE value.
