The Violet Eared Waxbill is from Southern Africa, a rather attractive finch if you ask me, the female a little more charming than the male.
Flying in small flocks and congregating on the ground to eat - by preference small seeds.
The Violet Eared Waxbill was first brought to Europe, Paris in fact in 1754 by the Marquise de Pompadour, who was a keen Aviarist and she kept the bird alive for three years.
