Scarlet Tanager

The Scarlet Tanager is a native of Brazil, consiquently it is also known as the Brazilian Tanager. The male is the one with the beautiful carmine or scarlet coloring, the female is generally brown and a lighter rosy red in parts.

The Tanagers in general are very attractive birds and the Scarlet Tanager is one of the cutest looking, they are generally found in small groups composed mostly of immature females and they stick to low lying areas.

The song of the Scarlet Tanager is a quick, rather loud, sharp chirping note of a single syllable which is repeated several times in succession.

When they nest they lay two or three eggs which are of a blue-green color, shining and smooth.
