Giraffe in Africa

Any African safari would not be complete without sighting the wonderful giraffe. People have come to see them and wondered at them for centuries, here is an extract from an early naturalist writing in the 17th century ...

This animal is a genus by itself, usually called - Camelopard.

It inhabits the forests of Aethiopia and other interior parts of Africa. it is very timid, but not swift. from the strange length of its forelegs, it cannot graze without dividing them at a vast distance; therefor lives by grazing of trees.

Its skin is spotted like that of the leopard: it is a most beautiful creature, as gentle in its dispositions as a sheep, and more amiable than any other wild beast: when he raises his head he is sixteen or seventeen feet high.
