Dogs Judgement of Character

Dogs are Instinctive

Very often a dog will instinctively distinguish good from bad quicker than his master can! A dog is much less likely to be deceived by appearances than us humans.

How often has my faithful dog taken a dislike to someone, only to be proved in the long term to be absolutely right - I don't know how they do it, but it makes sense to at least take note of your dog's opinion.

Having said that a dog must learn that once you have accepted a stranger then his job is done as far as barking is concerned, a persistently noisy dog is troublesome and an annoyance.

Generally a dog sees his role as that of protector and he will make judgements based on his own secret dog ways - a dog judges character purely on wether he perceives the person to be a threat or not.

I always notice that when against his better judgement he is lying down on the floor not causing trouble, he will keep a weary eye on the person he distrusts just in case he is called into action!!
